Original traditional quilt designs and top-notch quilting instruction
We took the plunge and starting teaching classes via Zoom - that's the plan for 2021 so everyone can stay safe!
We especially like teaching new quilters.
Visit our "Classes We Teach" page to see the most common classes we teach.
We have a VQD group on Facebook for sharing photos of recent quilts, tips for success, and general encouragement. To join, search for the group and request access. Anyone can post and we love seeing what other quilters are up to!

We love sewing and using log cabin quilts, so we've designed several. They can be used as wall hangings or lap quilts. Some of our designs are holiday-themed as well, like this picture above.
Bed quilt designs was where VQD started. Kay was making unique quilts for her house and friends convinced her to turn them into patterns. Our designs are queen and twin sizes.
These designs vary widely and are great for decorating. They can be sofa quilts or wall quilts. These designs are where we try out new ideas.
We designed these small projects for fast completion, but still using traditional blocks and quilting techniques. They are table runners, table toppers, or wall banners.
We have several "Weekender" quilt designs for beginner quilters or people who want to finish a quilt top in a weekend. They're easy and fun to use with new fabrics.
To see all our designs, click on "More" at the top of the page and then click on "All VQD Designs." We listed photos and quilt names, more details are available on Etsy.

If you want to hear about our next retreat or upcoming classes, please provide your email. **We do not send spam.**
Kay has been quilting since 1994. She has taught quilting classes since 1999 and attended camps, seminars, and conventions throughout the United States. She has organized multiple charity quilt projects and is active in the local quilt guild.
In 2007, she started VQD with her daughter, Allison, and began writing patterns for her original designs. In 2010, Kay started focusing on teaching classes again and has supported shops throughout Vermont, as well as guilds and shops throughout New England. Kay was invited to teach at Vermont Quilt Festival in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2019. She was a popular teacher at the 2021 Rebecca Page Quilting Sewing Summit.
We strive to spread the joy of quilting through teaching and designing traditional quilt patterns people feel they can actually do.
Our Core Competencies
(In the background picture, we are hiking the Tour du Mont Blanc - it was incredible!)
Allison took up quilting in 2003 and immediately got hooked. When possible, Allison is Kay's teaching assistant in the quilting classroom. She works on marketing projects, runs the website and handles final production of all digital products.
We still sell paper patterns. If you are a shop and want to buy wholesale, please contact us.
